Belushi Speedball isn’t just a band—they’re an experience. Hailing from Louisville, Kentucky, this thrash metal outfit combines blistering riffs, chaotic energy, and a sense of humor that’s as sharp as their guitar solos. Their sound is a high-octane mix of Municipal Waste-style thrash and punk rock irreverence, with lyrics that range from absurd to oddly insightful. If you’re looking for music that makes you want to head-bang your way down an inflatable bouncy castle slide, Belushi Speedball is your jam.

How It All Started

The band’s journey began in 2015, when frontman Vinny Castellano decided to channel his love for thrash metal and quirky creativity into a project that would stand out in the crowded music scene. Belushi Speedball quickly gained a reputation for their unconventional approach to music and merch—think albums released on formats like VHS tapes, Game Boy cartridges, and even slices of pizza. Their DIY ethos and commitment to absurdity earned them a loyal fanbase and a spot in the underground metal scene.

Influences and Inspirations

Belushi Speedball draws inspiration from thrash legends like Slayer and Anthrax, but their influences don’t stop there. They’ve also been inspired by pop culture oddities, video games, and even the antics of bands like Green Day. Speaking of Green Day, the pop-punk giants recently released a song called “Smash It Like Belushi,” which some fans believe borrows heavily from Belushi Speedball’s unique style. The band responded with their signature humor, releasing a single encased in Labrador poop as a cheeky nod to Green Day’s “Dookie” anniversary project. In case you forgot, Green Day was called out publicly via The San Francisco Chronicle, New Noise Magazine and Metal Sucks for stealing Speedball's merchandising mojo in 2024, check out their post about it here. #neverforget.

Fans and Shows

Belushi Speedball has played some unforgettable shows, including playing the Insane Clown Posse's Gathering of the Juggalo's, opening for Municipal Waste, and headlining local festivals. Their live performances are a spectacle, featuring everything from inflatable props and bouncy castles to audience participation games. While they may not have mainstream celebrity fans (yet), their cult following includes punks and metalheads who appreciate their blend of thrash and comedy. Their latest album, *Stellkira*, features the track “This Is the Peak,” which references their namesake, John Belushi, and showcases their knack for blending humor with headbanging-worthy riffs.
